Restoration

Un-restored A6G Frua Coupe grille

Since the early 1980s, Bill McGrath Maserati has been carrying out top quality restorations on all of the classic Maserati models. From an early A6G Frua Coupe to a late Khamsin, the company has vast experience not only of how the car should look and feel when restored, but also of the process of carrying out that work.

From the outset of any restoration, we undertake to fully project manage the work. We dismantle the car and assign specialists in the fields of bodywork and interior trim. We then carry out all of the mechanical and electrical work in house, from an engine or gearbox rebuild to remanufacture of the wiring loom, before re-assembling the car. Our own parts department sources all parts that are required and a number of smaller specialists accept our commissions to remanufacture obsolete items.

In our opinion, the finished car should retain great elements of its originality but also be in a condition similar to that which a special ‘motor show’ car might have been when new. Inadvertently, this has also produced many winners in Concours D’Elegance. Some of our restorations have been for famous clients such as the 1971 Ghibli for the Sultan of Brunei and the 1960 3500GT Spyder for the King of Morocco.

Others, such as the Allemano bodied 5000GT and the A6G2000 Frua Coupe were undertaken for Maserati collectors. However, probably our most successful restoration was the 1971 Maserati Ghibli SS belonging to UK Maserati Club President Alexander Fyshe.
